Unison Group Establishes New Services Division to Strengthen Delivery and Scale Across Electricity Sector

30 June 2025: Unison Group is proud to announce the establishment of the Unison Services Division, a new division that brings together two of its specialist electricity contracting businesses - PBA and Unison Contracting Services Ltd (UCSL).

This move supports the Unison Group’s long-term strategy to align and scale its service delivery capability across the high and low voltage spectrum, strengthening customer outcomes and creating greater value across Aotearoa’s growing energy sector.

Quentin Varcoe, former Chief Executive of UCSL, has been appointed as Chief Executive of the Unison Services Division. He brings more than 20 years of experience in New Zealand’s electricity sector and a strong track record of leading teams that are dedicated and committed to delivering high performance, safety, capability and customer value.

"The establishment of a Unison Services Division is a key milestone in our Group strategy to strengthen alignment and unlock opportunities for scale and excellence," said Jaun Park, Group Chief Executive of Unison. "This is about ensuring our group of companies is well placed to support our customers' future needs, while creating strong career pathways and sustainable growth across the sector. It also reflects our ongoing vision to lead a sustainable energy future.

"This is an exciting and natural step for two trusted businesses to come together and build on each other’s strengths. Together, we’ll be even better placed to support our customers’ electrification, resilience and growth journeys," said Mr Varcoe.

PBA will continue to operate as a distinct entity with the same trusted team and technical leadership, now supported by a wider strategic platform. Rob Silcock has stepped down as Chief Executive of PBA and will continue to support the business in a project-based role.

"It’s been a privilege to lead PBA and work alongside such a skilled, committed team," said Mr Silcock. "I’m proud of what we’ve built and confident that this next chapter within the Unison Services Division will strengthen what we do best - delivering technical excellence and trusted service to our customers."

Mr Park also acknowledged Mr Silcock’s contribution: "Rob has led PBA through a period of significant growth and transformation. I want to sincerely thank him for his dedication and leadership, and we’re pleased he’ll continue to support the business as part of this next phase."

PBA and UCSL will continue to operate as distinct businesses, now aligned under one vision, dedicated and committed to building capability, creating value, and enabling a more sustainable energy future.

This change also supports Unison’s broader vision to align its group of companies and ensure they are positioned for long-term success in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
